Flower power
Alcohol Ink on Paper – 28” x 22”
The water thirsty Fall season here in Sonoma County creates a tame color palette, I missed the vibrant colors of my summer garden. I became inspired to paint with the powerful colors from alcohol inks – I wanted to let the memory of the colors linger and weave into the painting and layer deepening colors and shapes.Painting with alcohol inks is exhillerting and demands a different and unique method of painting – one that requires planning, layering, intuition and hope. I use brushes dipped in ink then apply alcohol and brush/blow/spray and sprinkle and guide the ink to make bontanticaly inspired shapes and marks. Colors mix and merge in unpredictable ways making this technique feel like a metaphor for life – having to plan but ultimately let go of the painting’s outcome.
